Return to Home PageAncient Greek Day

On June 12th 2007 Key Stage 2 children were lucky enough to have a visit from a local history expert who visited the school and showed us many aspects of Greek life and living. You will see below photos of some of the many activities we were able to experience during the course of the day. Most of the children dressed up in Greek costumes which added to the atmosphere and made us all feel very much a part of how the Ancient Greeks would have felt.

Greek Costumes:
Our costumes varied from slaves to the rich - here are some examples...

With lots of voluntary help from the parents we were able to take part in many activities throughout the day.

Frescos: the art of painting on a moist plaster surface with colours ground in water or limewater mixture.

Pottery: We made pots and plates from clay.

Jewellery: We cut out gold leaves and attached them to wire to make necklaces and bracelets and we also made clay beads to make different kinds of jewellery.

Mosaics and Oil lamps:

Medicine and examples of the food they ate:

Wax Tablets and Soap Carving:

Worshipping at the Temple:

Play acting as Greek Slaves serving our masters:

Greek Dancing and Story Telling:

A wonderful day was had by all and our thanks go to the wonderful voluntary helpers who support our school activities so well.
