We Made A Hovercraft A group of friends from Fen Ditton Primary School were lucky enough to visit the Cambridge University Department of Technology to make mini hovercrafts. The materials we used were a polystyrene chip tray, a polystyrene cup, and a propeller driven by a battery. To assemble the hovercraft we cut a hole in the centre of the chip tray and cut a slot in the cup (to allow air flow). We attached the propeller unit to the top of the cup and placed the battery pack to the front of the cup. We added fins to our hovercraft for decoration, but also to help the hovercraft to move in a straight line (to keep it aerodynamic). We called our hovercraft "The Beast". If you make one of these at home you can decorate it as much as you want. When you switch on the battery and place your hovercraft on a smooth shiny surface watch it hover...... it is really cool.... have a go! |
